Frederick "Fred" Charles Lofgren, of Carlton, formerly of Blackhoof Township, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in Sunnyside Health Care Center, Cloquet. He was born February 10, 1918 in Duluth to Frederick and Margaret (Williams) Lofgren. Fred grew up in West Duluth, graduating from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1937. Fred was an Army Veteran of WWII. Fred was united in marriage to Ellen Wik on November 1, 1947 in Blackhoof Township. Fred and Ellen farmed in Sandy Lake most of their life. He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church of Blackhoof Township and V.F.W Post #2962 of Carlton. Fred was also on the board at Pine Ridge Homes and a member of the Blackhoof Fire Department for over 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage and especially spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife Ellen; his parents; granddaughter, Mandy Lofgren; twin grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremy Lofgren; great grandchild, Jackson Korpela.
Fred is survived by 4 sons, Charles (Helen) Lofgren of Dalbo, Norman Lofgren of Barnum, Arnold (Darlene) Lofgren of Barnum and Roger (Gwen) Lofgren of Omaha, NE; 2 daughters, Joyce Lofgren of Cloquet and Yvonne (Craig) Peterson of Mahtowa; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, January 15, from 1 PM until the 2 PM service in Elim Lutheran Church, Blackhoof Township with Pastor John Sippola officiating. Military Honors were provided by V.F.W. Post #2962 of Carlton. Spring Interment will be in Elim Lutheran Cemetery, Blackhoof Township. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. | |
