FUNERAL IS HELD FOR MRS. DOWNING
Beloved Resident of Lawrence County Succumbs
MOULTON, Ala. - Funeral services for Mrs. Mollie Downing were conducted this morning at the residence, in Moulton, by Father Moeller, of St. Anne's Catholic church, at Decatur, interment following in Moulton cemetery, east of town.
The death of Mrs. Downing came very unexpectedly about 4 o'clock Thursday morning. She had retired the night before apparently as well as she had been for some time. She had not been strong for several months and had been expecially frail since the death of her son, E.B. Downing, a few months ago, Mrs. Downing was 77 years of age.
Mrs. Downing was born and reared in Lawrence county. Her father was Bryant Kelley, a native of Ireland. Her husband, James Downing, who died many years ago, was also a native of Ireland. She was appointed postmistress of Moulton in the early part of the McKinley administration and served very efficiently for 17 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. G.C. Chenault of Decatur; Mrs. William L. Chenault of Russellville and Miss Lucy Downing of Moulton; six granddaughters, Misses Mary, Louise and Martha Chenault of Decatur, and Misses Lucy Adele, Elizabeth Eugenia and Willa Grace Chenault of Russellville; one grandson, Wm. L. Chenault, of Russellville.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Aldridge, Hutson Sandlin, W.R. Jackson, R.M. Byars, Chas. E. Bragg, Frank Howell, Walter Alexander and O.L. Judy.
