Mathias Johansson Mathesius (1520-1607) 1520--1607 (man)
Mathias Johansson Mathesius
Birthdate: 1520
Birthplace: Böhmen, Germany
Death: Died 1607 in Sweden
Genealogical connection between the German reformer Johannes Mathesius and the finnish Mathesius family is just a legend. The finnish Mathesius family may have taken the name from their home farm called "Mattila." The father of Georgius Mathiae Mathesius de Halikko may have been the owner of that farm. Georgius Mathiae Mathesius de Halikko became a merchant in Stockholm and then latinized the name. It's the most likely explanation of the Mathesius name. | |
